oldies but goodies

ryan says that the last posts' bird poop video might be fake, but this one is not.

supposedly the newsreporter broke a rib and punctured a lung. hence, the "i cant breathe."

i listened to the commentary track on SUPERBAD and evidently, jonah hill's character makes THE NOISE when he carries michael cera out of the party and there was a big fight on set whether it would be funny or not.

my new couch

i moved to california in 2001. i moved out of a tiny studio into a slightly larger one in 2002 when i bought a loveseat at a garage sale in berkeley for $40. i got it from a mixed gender house of what seemed like lackadaisical Ph.D. students.

it was such a piece of crap back then that when my girlfriend came over, she refused to sit on it until i promised to wash all the cushion covers.

in 2004, i moved to LA, and my couch came with me. none of my LA friends liked the couch. one person, i think, just subtly disapproved by never sitting in it. she never complained, but i noticed that she never sat on it. when they complained, i told them that i bought it for $25, and they all still insisted that i got ripped off.

this past friday, c-teen, who has sat on my couch numerous times, was sitting on my couch when she said, "jk, you really need a new couch. this one is getting really gross."

so on saturday i did it. i got a smurf blue couch from IKEA.

i assembled it today and i've already napped on it. also laid out with laptop on belly watching this week's FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. i love my new couch.

BUT...yesterday when i tried to get rid of my old couch, i took it to the local goodwill store and THEY REJECTED IT.

the quote: "no way. there's no way i can sell this thing. look, this is dirty. people come here to buy stuff. we run a store, this isn't just some place to get rid of your junk, ok?" it really put things into perspective.

check them out. unlike my other buds with blogs, they actually update a few times a week.

question of the day

my favorite basketball player as i was growing up was isiah thomas. easily. by far. i wanted to emulate his game. i imagined that i was him. and up until my freshman year of high school (when i realized that how hard it was just to make the freshman b-ball team) i harbored fantasies of following in isiah's footsteps and making it to the nba.

he is probably still my favorite player of all time. and the one that i would most want a jersey from.

now, they have only had the $300 throwback jerseys for sale ever. but now they have this cheaper version:

but is it too messed up to wear one, now that he's been accused and found by a jury of peers to be a total sexual harasser?

ego surfing

i've got a pretty generic name, so i can only really search for stuff on the internet about me according to the names of the two zines that i wrote: coed naked sex zine and lemonade zine.

i just found this written by laura from superchunk on the oh merge! blog and i got a little teary (made me think of jason lee in ALMOST FAMOUS saying, "and one day, one of us will save the world!"--the zine revolution is not over!).

"Blogger laura said...

Speaking of blogging about blogging. I (being a recent parent) am totally in love with the Sweet Juniper! blog (http://sweetjuniper.blogspot.com/). It usually makes me laugh or cry when I read it. Sometimes both. It is written in a really touching and personal way. I also recently read the new zine (yes, I said zine folks) from JK, creator of my old favorite zine, Coed Naked Sex. His new zine is called Lemonade and is made in exactly the same way, cut and pasted and taken down to Kinko's for some copying, finished up with a nice fold and two staples. I laughed my ass off at his real life foibles and bad attitude. This is what I like. I identify with it, it could be me.
