halloween is so in full effect. i was talking to a friend yesterday. we were like, "it's gotten to the point where two weeks before halloween girls are using any excuse possible to dress in a slutty 'costume.'" i can only guess that it's even more prevalent in LA.
after going out last night, i'd have to say, it's so true. and i'm guessing tonight will be no different. my outfit last night? biz caj. b/c i was at the office until 8:30. but hey, still made it to the dance floor. and dancing to top 40 hip hop for the first time in ages--and understanding why all these "drop it" songs are so popular. songs directing girls to put their butts in your crotch. insane. how did i miss this? am i an old fart? probably.
here's a song for you that just came up on my itunes. stereolab asks the ultimate question: "what's society good for?"
i'd have posted the "drop it" song but i don't know it. it's not "drop it like it's hot" it's a new song that i've never heard before.

goal scorer: put your badge in your mouth and jump in the air.
team mates: mob the goal scorer.
owners: high fives, b/c it's $$$
manager: keep a straight face and nonchalantly check your watch.

hippie love: dedicated to the cliffs, the big rocks, and the angry ocean.
socal = beaches and crumbly cliffs. central california is where you start seeing really big crazy rocky beaches. big sur is so awesome. and then north of san francisco, which is where these photos are from, it's more of the same, all the way up the coast.
check out the wave breaking in the background.
this is where they filmed goonies.

i've been in hardcore money saving mode and i got my amex bill today and i'm very proud of myself.
i was talking about money with a friend recently and here's how it went:
jk: shit. i'm always paranoid about what i bought for the month. don't you dread the credit card bill?
jk: why not?
nk: i don't really use credit cards.
jk: what do you do?
nk: i like to play a little game with myself where i take a set amount of cash each week and see if i can live off it.
i think that's wonderful. less stressful, but NO CASH BACK REWARDS! anyways. no trips this month. no plane tickets. no $100 celebrity chef meals. happy as ever.
i have a friend that recently quit his stressful, high pressure, well-paying job in phoenix and moved to chico for a less stressful, kick-back life in a small town in the middle of a forested paradise. less money, more happiness (fact) and i bet he isn't tempted by $100 sushi dinners either! the temptations of a yuppie, i know. what the fuck have i become?
seminal moment: 1997. i was only wearing thrift store pants or pants with 28" cuffs at the bottom (raver pants). i couldn't imagine not wearing giant pants. my sister said that i had to stop wearing jokey pants. my parents called them "street sweepers."
but they made the ironic statement of using my mom's monet umbrella so much more powerful! now, my pocket umbrella is broken, and it's the first rain in LA for the season. i go to work wearing biz casual. and to and from the train, i'm rocking this:

ilo and pud got married in august up in wine country.
inspired by the cape cod wedding of his chaitness and t-rock and photos of it on this blog, ilo planned it as an outdoor event encouraging garden wear and hats.
when you are friends with the bride, she poses for you as she walks up the aisle:
joy! and hats!
seersucker/ascot ensemble gets a hat!
one day, the three of us were a a band.
i'd say 9/10 weddings you go to, the bride looks hotter than she ever has before, and ilo looked awesome. this was the million dollar jackie-o smile she was making all day.

which has been on my computer for the past 4 years...i guess.
1. promise ring - everywhere in denver
2. cat power - i don't blame you
3. built to spill - car
4. guided by voices - teenage fbi*
5. blur - you're so great
* i was trying to figure out how to play this song on guitar, so the stats might be skewed. so i'm including my #6 song too.
6. belle & sebastian - boy with the arab strap
closer inspection reveals a tie for 6. and a margin of error of 5 for teenage fbi--did i listen to it 5+ times when i figured out how to play it?
6. green day - 2,000 light years away
6. magnetic fields - long forgotten fairy tale

sometimes when i'm driving in my car, the perfect song comes on that matches exactly how i feel and i feel like it would be the perfect song to have playing in a car commercial or movie montage.
today it was driving at night. and this song.
the lyrics are sad. but i feel like the music is so awesome. esp. the guitar solo. i'm thinking driving in a movie, a solitary couple slow dancing after the party is over, that kind of thing
